“He’s got a peripheral neuropathy with severe nerve deterioration and the biopsy shows little evidence of regeneration.” Those were the devastating words spoken by the neurologist who took muscle and nerve biopsies from our recently turned four years-old Boxer, Mugsy. We had seen at least four vets, one surgeon, and one neurologist on our quest to find out what was wrong. We finally had a diagnosis, and it gave little hope, but there was no way that that would be an acceptable end to Mugsy's story. There had to be something that could be done,,,

Mugsy’s problems began with a carpet—a worn, smelly carpet that had to be torn up. There were piles of silt and debris coating the hardwood floors throughout our home. Two days later, I noticed that Mugsy’s bark was suddenly reduced to the pitch of a squeaky toy. Off to the vet we went. Mugsy became depressed, wanting nothing to do with us, or his younger Boxer brother. The limp was more frequent, and sometimes Mugsy would stand with his left leg raised, paw dangling. We tried this antibiotic, and that steroid. We went months without answers until we found a doctor who had the foresight to perform a neurological examination. The diagnostic tests were performed, and we were given a name for Mugsy’s condition, but not much else. Mugsy’s disorder was similar to MS or ALS in humans. We were told that things could get better…or worse…or worse, and then better. We prepared ourselves for the possibility of Mugsy losing his back end, or worse, his respiratory system.

By October 2003, both of Mugsy’s front paws had become demyelinated, meaning that his nerves and muscles had lost communication with one another. Our once strong Boxer was bent over and dragging himself around on his knuckles. His front paws were stiff and curled under. They seemed locked and unmovable—even his toes were bent and curled. He was sometimes incontinent at night.

We started acupuncture, and the left paw started to uncurl a bit. Mugsy had subluxations in his neck. We found a chiropractor and went once a week until the doctor retired. Through the neurologist, we learned that Mugsy could get swim therapy 20 minutes from our home at Show Place Farms. Swim changed Mugsy’s life. In the pool he was free, strong, and normal! He socialized, he played, and he got exercise. It was at the pool that we were introduced to the concepts of Reiki and CranioSacral Therapy.

Mugsy’s chiropractor retired to another state, which prompted us to give the CranioSacral Therapy a try. Although my husband and I had no idea what to expect, and little hope for a magic bullet after seeing so many other avenues fail, we had Tracy come over to work with Mugs. After one session, Mugsy went out and tromped the entire length of our almost one acre back yard! At that moment, my skeptical husband developed a steadfast belief in CranioSacral Therapy. After a few more sessions with Tracy, the incontinent episodes stopped completely and Mugsy’s paws started to unlock from their tight, cramped position.

I absolutely must add that one of the greatest things about Tracy is her generosity with her talents. During our first session, she taught me T-Touch and gave me endless resources so I could work with Mugs myself. Too often people hoard such things and keep them exclusive for the sake of acquiring more money and personal gain. It is evident that Tracy truly wants to do anything she can to help the animal in need, and she has proven this to us many, many times.

Throughout the following months, we saw new and exciting changes. Mugsy’s energy shot way up. His eyes seemed larger and brighter. He wanted to play more than he had in a long time. Backyard visits became journeys into the woods where our fencing ends. Mugsy started running and hopping around playfully. His paws were still turned under, but in his mind, no handicap existed.

In 2003, I feared that something terrible would happen to Mugs before, or during the holidays. This year was different! Mugs were able to join us for Christmas tree shopping and holiday visits to family this year. He tromped all over the tree farm happily, even after having a swim session earlier that morning. He assisted with all holiday activities, and even conspired with his brother, Shadow, in stealing their unwrapped presents!

Mugsy continues his busy schedule of swimming and CranioSacral Therapy, as well acupuncture and JMT with his holistic veterinarian. He continues to make incremental improvements after each session with Tracy. His paws are much more flexible, and his muscles more supple and defined. The changes that have occurred in the months since Tracy began working with Mugsy have given all of us new hope and increased confidence. There was a time when the future was terrifying to me; it’s become a lot less scary thanks to the many gifted healers that have come into Mugsy’s life. I don’t know where Mugsy would be had my husband and I not opened our minds and taken a chance on a therapy we’d never heard about. Before Mugsy’s chiropractor retired, I asked him if he thought we should try CranioSacral. His reply was, “God gives some of us the gift to heal, and we give it different names, so we feel we own part of it. Whatever the method is called, it is healing. Give it a try.” We’re really glad we did.

I first became aware of Tracy Vroom & TTouch while attending an obedience match with my Golden Retriever "Jake". After the match, I met with Tracy and while talking to her, suddenly realized that Jake was as calm as I've ever seen him, especially when meeting someone new. Here Tracy was applying TTouch to Jake while we were talking and I was seeing the immediate results.

From then on, I had to know more about TTouch, to see if I could learn how to give this TTouch to Jake to bring about this calming affect on him. I had many one-on-one sessions with Tracy & was able to learn how I could also apply TTouch to Jake. I know Jake thanks me for this time.

One bonus benefit that I picked up from this, was I was able to communicate with Jake by slight TTouch motions just before we entered into the obedience ring, right before we were starting a potential stressful obedience exercise (for Jake that was Utility articles), or right before starting a tracking exercise. Just a brief special moment between Jake & myself, probably unnoticed by many, but very special between us. My way of saying everything will be fine.

“I think TTouch should be taught in every veterinarian school before graduation. It is such an easy and useful method for gaining cooperation through understanding rather than domination.” –Pat Whittaker, DVM

“In the 15 years I’ve worked in zoos, I’ve never seen anything like the way animals respond to this method of handling. The TTouch reduces stress and pain, alters negative behavioral patterns and speeds up healing of injuries in animals that haven’t responded to other treatments.” –Art Goodrich, Sand Diego, Zookeeper

“My dog was hit by a car. I saw it happen and felt hysterical. On the way to the vet we did TTouch and she was out of shock by the time we got there. The vet said she was very lucky to be alive” – Deb Russell, dog owner

“I couldn’t believe the difference in my older dog. There was such a change in one session. He was happy frisky and like a puppy again.” –Martha Singer, Dog Owner

“The TTouch profoundly alters the mental state and body awareness of animals, I have observed 1) TTouch works, 2) the effects are lasting 3) after brief instructions, others can easily achieve results.” –Tom Beckett, Veterinarian
